Paul Merson has predicted that Tottenham will be knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
The former Arsenal star has backed the Blues to earn a 2-0 win after extra time, which would be enough for them to seal a 2-1 victory on aggregate after Spurs won by a single goal at Wembley in the first leg.
Mauricio Pochettino is missing a whole host of key players for the trip to Chelsea including impressive midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who Merson has admitted that he is not a big fan of.
“It’s a good time to play Tottenham. If you could say before the game, you can pull out three players from that team before the game, they’d be three of the four, them and Christian Eriksen. I’m not Moussa Sissoko’s biggest fan either but he has been playing well for them and he’s out too,” said Merson on the Sky Sports website.
“I still think Tottenham have got a chance, I don’t see Chelsea blowing anyone away at the moment with the way they’re playing. They’re already 1-0 down, so it could be a long night. I wouldn’t be surprised if it went to extra-time.

“Tactically with Chelsea, I don’t think there’s a plan. He plays the
same way every week, and over the last few weeks they’ve struggled to
break teams down. They’re not making 10-15 chances a game, and it’s
going to be difficult. It’ll be a hard game.
“But because of the injuries to Spurs, I think Chelsea will just about edge it.”
OPINION
Chelsea have been awful lately so while it might be a good time for them to play Tottenham from their point of views, it is also a good time to play Maurizio Sarri’s side from Spurs’. Pochettino’s men struggled to a 2-1 win against lowly Fulham on Sunday and they are bound to struggle again at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham will definitely take a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge in a game where Chelsea have to score a goal. Sarri’s side has failed to create many chances in recent games so that could work in Spurs’ favour. Pochettino still has a fully-fit defence, so if they can keep Chelsea’s attackers quiet, then they stand a good chance of progressing. Eden Hazard is the man who everyone will need to watch. The Belgian has been in poor form lately, but he is bound to step it up once a big game comes along. This is a huge game.
